The Benefits of LASIK
LASIK eye surgery can improve your vision and eliminate the need for contact lenses and eyeglasses. When you choose the highly trained ophthalmologists at our Garnerville or West Nyack, NY, offices, you can enjoy several benefits:
Fast Treatment
LASIK only takes about 10 minutes per eye and you can return home to rest shortly after the procedure.

Lasting Results
Even ten years after receiving LASIK, only 10 percent of recipients require touch-up treatment.

LASIK surgery involves three fundamental steps.
Why Choose Us to Perform Your LASIK Procedure? Our Ophthalmologists Are Board-Certified
Many eye care practices offer LASIK eye surgery, but few have four board-certified ophthalmologists on staff. Board-certification involves extra ophthalmology education and training, meaning you receive the best general and surgical eye care possible. One of our ophthalmologists, Dr. Robert Chen, was even named a NY Top Doc in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The Latest FDA-Approved Laser Technology
When you choose Rockland Eye Physicians & Surgeons, you can rest assured that your procedure will be performed using the most precise, advanced equipment in the field of ophthalmology:
Vision Correction Laser
During laser vision correction procedures, we use the VISX Star S4 IR® Active Trak system with 3-D Active Eye Trak technology. This excimer laser features cutting-edge spot scanning and beam technology, allowing for highly precise and customized vision correction. It also tracks any eye movements during the operation so there are no irregularities during the correction process. This system's larger, blended zone of treatment also decreases the risk of developing surgical complications such as halos and glare.
Flap Creation Laser
During the flap creation step of your LASIK procedure, we will use the iFS® Advanced Femtosecond Laser. Data has shown that this type of femtosecond laser is superior because it uses less energy to create the LASIK flap. This plays a very important role in reducing tissue inflammation, which can delay healing.
Two Convenient Locations
For your convenience, we offer two state-of-the-art locations in Rockland County, New York. When you are ready, you can schedule your LASIK consultation and surgery at either of our offices in Garnerville or West Nyack. Both locations feature the latest technology in the field of ophthalmology, and we proudly welcome patients from New York and nearby Bergen County, NJ.

Most Patients Experience Excellent Results
Laser Eye Surgery Can Correct Common Vision Problems
Myopia
Also known as nearsightedness, myopia can make it difficult to see objects that are far away such as street signs. By correcting the shape of the cornea, a LASIK procedure can address this refractive error.
Hyperopia
Farsightedness makes it difficult to see things at a close distance, making reading and other daily tasks frustrating. With LASIK eye surgery, our highly trained surgeons can eliminate your need for reading glasses or contact lenses.
Astigmatism
Those with astigmatism can also improve their vision with laser eye surgery. If you have severe astigmatism, our New York surgeons may recommend another form of keratomileusis (surgical cornea reshaping) known as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
With LASIK, most patients can achieve 20/40 vision or better without using contact lenses or eyeglasses.
I suffer from one of these vision problems. Is LASIK right for me?
Requirements for LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK is not necessarily suitable for everyone. The only way to determine if you are an appropriate candidate is to schedule a consultation with one of our doctors. You can also take a self-evaluation on our website and have the results sent directly to our team. In general, good candidates for LASIK eye surgery are:
In Good Overall Health
Our surgeons will complete a full medical history evaluation to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo eye surgery.Over 18 Years of Age
As you age, your degree of refractive error might change. For this reason, LASIK is only recommended for adults who have a stable glasses or contacts prescription. The FDA has not approved the procedure for patients under 18.What Can I Expect During My Consultation?
Prior to undergoing vision correction surgery, our doctors will first evaluate your ocular health and needs. We will perform a comprehensive eye exam, including tests to evaluate your eye health. These tests will alert us to any issues that might preclude you from undergoing LASIK. We use advanced technology to measure your corneal thickness, internal curvature, the size of your pupils, the intensity of your astigmatism, and more. During this appointment, we will also discuss the overall cost of your surgery.

"I was finally able to resolve eye issues..."
My experience with Rockland Eye Physicians has been outstanding. After numerous doctors and being undiagnosed I was finally able to resolve eye issues that I have been having for years. Dr Leen did an exceptional job educating me on my diagnosis. The front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly.
View on GoogleMy experience at the Rockland Eye Physicians office was very pleasant. I was greeted at the door and was quickly checked and then seated. I was spoken to and told about what to expect during this visit and what to expect in the coming days before the surgery. I read and signed some forms and was taken in immediately for required tests and eye measurements. The Nurse explained the things that I needed to do in the coming days and I was finished...Thanks-a-million, Kate McDermott

Recovering from LASIK
First 24-48 Hours
After the anesthesia wears off, you may experience some side effects including a mild burning sensation, itching, and dry eye. We will give you instructions on how to mitigate discomfort with pain medication and eye drops. Go home and rest your eyes for a few hours, and wear sunglasses if you need to go outside. We will see you for a follow-up exam a few days later to check your vision and recovery progress.
First Month
Be especially careful not to touch or apply pressure to your eyes in the week following your procedure. Refrain from swimming, wearing eye makeup, and playing contact sports as these activities can irritate your eyes.
Two to Six Months
While you can begin to ease back into exercise a few weeks after surgery, we recommend you wait at least a month for highly strenuous activity. Your eyes will continue to heal at the cellular level for approximately three to six months, after which your vision should stabilize. Attend all your follow-up appointments and call us at our West Nyack office if you have questions at any point in your recovery.
What makes LASIK eye surgery a better option than other treatments available at our New York practice?
Life-Changing Results in Just Days
In some cases, the LASIK procedure may not completely eliminate your need for contact lenses or glasses, but it can greatly reduce your dependency on them. Most patients will only require corrective lenses for up-close or detailed work.
Compared with other treatments available at our Garnerville and West Nyack, NY, offices such as PRK, the primary benefit is a shortened recovery time. It can take weeks to fully recover after PRK surgery. With LASIK, most patients can return to their normal schedule with improved vision in a matter of days.
